OSRS: Things To Do Before Becoming A Member/P2P

Old school Runescape is a great game to play with many fun and enjoyable things to do for nearly everyone. However, when starting, it may be difficult to believe that. After all, because of the game’s setup, one may feel slightly overwhelmed or potentially unimpressed.

In this overview, we’re going to go over a few things you can do when playing the game to better decide if OSRS is the game for you, and whether or not you should consider becoming a full-fledged member.

First Off, Why Become A Member?

One question you might be asking is, “Why even become a member in the first place?” After all, the game is free-to-play and there isn’t a “trial end” period that forces you to play or get booted. So, why not just enjoy f2p?

While you can certainly play the game for free, as you can imagine, it’s not going to be the full game. In reality, though it may not feel like a trial period, it very much is. You’re not going to be able to check out all of the different areas or have access to all of the various skills in the game. Not only that, your available quests will be pretty limited, meaning even if you can play indefinitely, your playtime itself will be fairly stunted.

So When Should I Consider Becoming A Member?

We’ll get to that, but the simplest answer is, consider whether you want to become a member after you’ve played f2p and gotten bored of the content. When you’re bored of playing and have done everything you can, decide if you want to do more. If so, then you should consider becoming a member.

But you may be curious what there is to actually “do” in OSRS. Well, here are some things you can start jumping into right away in F2P Old school Runescape.

Quests

Quests are a great way to see what Runescape is all about. They give you a ton of XP while also having you travel around the map and see what is out there. Here is a list of the different quests to get into.

Early Quests

  • Prince Ali Rescue: (Access to the Al-Kharid Gate)
  • Rune Mysteries: (Unlocks Mining Essence & Crafting Runes)
  • X Marks the Spot: (Gives a Beginner Clue Scroll)

XP Quests

  • Sheep Shearer: (Crafting)
  • Doric’s Quest: (Mining)
  • Witch’s Potion (Magic)
  • The Knight’s Sword (Smithing)
  • Misthalin Mystery (Gives Crafting XP and Free Gems)

Skills

In addition to quests, some skills to consider getting include the following.

Combat Skill

While you are most likely going to have considerably better options as a member, if you want to have some decent enough stats while free to play, consider getting your combat stats around these levels.

  • Attack (Until Level 40)
  • Strength (Until Level 40)
  • Defense (Until Level 40)

When hitting these levels, you’ll be able to effectively wear the Rune Armor. This is the last free-to-play armor set available. While it’s not nearly as powerful as many of the armor sets for members, it is decent enough to let you fight most opponents in free-to-play, as well as some weaker enemies in paid member settings.

Conclusion

There are a lot of things you can do in free to play. This list doesn’t even hit everything available. This should let you know how expansive Old school Runescape is and how much there is still out there to enjoy.

Enjoy the free option and play for as long as you want. Then, when you decide you want to see how much more is out there, come by and check out our other guides so you can see just what this game truly has in store for you…
