OSRS 1-99 Woodcutting Guide

Leveling Guide

Level 1-15 Logs

At level 1 woodcutting, you can cut normal logs. You can find normal logs in every town and area, but the best location is in front of the Great Exchange because there are various groups of trees present here. Plus, it is near one of the shops to buy your axe, or simply buy at the grand exchange.

Level 15-30 Oak Trees

Once you have reached level 15, you can begin to cut down oak trees. It is best to go to the bank to clean up your inventory from the logs. Additionally, with oak trees, you can obtain multiple logs per tree, which transforms this into more AFK-like grinding.

Level 30-45 Willow Trees

Upon reaching level 30, you can cut down Willow trees, which given much more experience than the previous logs. These trees grow near bodies of water.

Thus you can find them near rivers and water plantations. We recommend Draynor Village, where they are very close to the bank.

Level 45-90 Teak Trees

When you reach level 45, you can chop down Teak trees practically until you reach level 90. The best location to find Teak Trees is at Ape Atoll.

Level 90-99 Redwood Trees

Yields 60-70k exp/hour, it is extremely AFK. It would be best if you were woodcutting them in the woodcutting guild, since you gain +7 invisible boost to your woodcutting level.

You can also continue with teak logs if you prefer to do that, 3-ticking teak logs will get you better exp rates.

Alternatives

Level 60-90 Maple Trees

Gives around 40-50k exp/hour. In Seer’s Village it is close to a bank, or in the woodcutting guild, since you gain an invisible woodcutting boost there.

Ents

If you want good profits as well as woodcutting exp, consider killing ents and chopping them, be careful though as this is in the wilderness.

Quests That Give Woodcutting Experience

There are not many quests in OSRS that give woodcutting experience. However, those that do give experience points have low to mid-level requirements to complete them.

  • Monks Friend
  • Itchlarins Little Helper
  • Enlightened Journey
  • Heroes Quest
  • Animal Magnetism
  • Eyes Of Glouphrine
  • Fremennik Trials
  • The Fremennik Isles
  • Grim Tales
  • Song of the Elves
  • Recipe For Disaster

If you were to do all of these quests, you would get 62k woodcutting exp.

One of the best options is Monk’s Friend and Itchlarin’s Little Helper. The “Monk’s Friend” quest is one of the easiest and fastest quests in the game, and it yields two thousand woodcutting experiences from the get-go. From just this quest, you will reach level 13 woodcutting.

The second quest, “Itchlarin’s Little Helper,” will yield enough experience to take you to level 22 woodcutting through quests alone or chop a tree at Tutorial Island. In the early levels, woodcutting is not that difficult, so it is good to do these quests to increase your rank easily. From personal experience, it is best to complete these quests early on so you can skip the initial levels and continue on harder levels quicker. Additionally, completing quests will also enhance your account’s progress in OSRS. Nevertheless, other minor quests do give out woodcutting experience, but they do not provide a jumpstart as the previous two do.

Woodcutting Gear

Lumberjack Outfit

The Lumberjack Outfit is a reward from the Temple Trekking minigame, but it can also be obtained as an item drop from the monsters you fight within the minigame. You can easily complete the minigame in less than an hour unless you are a beginner or the RNG chances get the most out of you. Overall, it is pretty fast to get the outfit. Each piece of the outfit bestows additional bonus points when woodcutting and the whole outfit provides up to 2.5% extra woodcutting experience. The final bonus points may not be a lot, but they save you some hours when reaching level 99. Thus, it is of your best interest to acquire it.

Axes

In OSRS, all metal-based gear has a rank system, from bronze, the lowest tier, to the dragon axe, which is the highest tier. If you are a beginner (level 1 woodcutting), you can choose the bronze or iron axe, but the iron is the faster option of the two.

Ideally, it would help if you replaced your axe with its available upgrade every time you unlock because it increases your woodcutting speed. Additionally, the woodcutting axes are not expensive, and it is not hard to replace them when you unlock the next tier.

The best axe in the game is the dragon axe, which is usable at 61 level woodcutting, and it costs less than 100k gold. Additionally, it has a special effect that increases your woodcutting level by three temporarily, which increases your woodcutting over time. A feature with the dragon axe is that it can be upgraded to an Infernal axe as well.

Infernal Axe

The Infernal Axe is obtained by using a Smoldering stone on it. This axe has the same stats and specs as the Dragon Axe, including the special attack, but it also possesses a passive effect.

There is a one-in-three chance that the axe will burn the logs you chop, which will give you additional fire-making experience that you normally make when you are burning logs on purpose. However, you only receive half the fire-making experience.

Nevertheless, it is quite nice to make the additional experience for another skill while doing woodcutting, even though it makes it a little AFK. This is because your inventory is not filling up as quickly as you truly do AFK.

To craft the Infernal Axe, you will need to be level 61 woodcutting and level 85 fire-making. This axe is also degradable, and it has 5000 charges per charge every time it burns a log. To charge the axe, you have to use another dragon axe or a smoldering stone on it.

This makes it cheap to recharge it, and an uncharged infernal axe is as good as an ordinary dragon axe. Either way, it is worth it to acquire this upgrade in the long run.

Strung Rabbit’s Foot

This item has a slight beneficial effect whenever you are woodcutting. It increases the chances of a bird’s nest falling from a cut tree. The nest can have various items, such as eggs, treasure, rings, and seed. A bird’s egg can be turned to the Woodcutting Guild for some experience or a piece of the Evil Chicken Outfit. If you are wearing a Strung Rabbit’s Foot, it increases the chances that the bird’s nest contains an egg or a ring. It is not required for woodcutting, but you can make a considerable amount of profit from the rings, or you have more chances of completing the Evil Chicken Outfit.
