OSRS 1-99 Firemaking Guide

In OSRS, there are many skills that you can level up to obtain resources, make a profit, and improve your gaming experience. Firemaking is not one of those.

Some of these skills consume a lot of time to reach their maximum, such as runecrafting or mining, while others are faster and rather enjoyable to level up.

Firemaking is one of the few skills in OSRS that can be leveled quite rapidly but is deemed as maybe the most useless skill of them all.

Leveling Guide

Usually, the first logs you light on are cheap and yield very quick experience points, even at low fire-making levels. Nevertheless, you should take into consideration that you don’t always light the log on the first try, so it can be rather slow and glitchy, especially if you are just starting out.

Level 1-15 Logs

At level 1 Firemaking, you can only light normal logs, but you only need to light 61 logs to reach level 15.

Level 15-30 Oak Logs

After reaching level 15, you can now light oak logs, and by lighting 183 logs, you will increase your level to 30.

Level 30-35 Willow Logs

Now, you move on to willow logs, and you only need light 101 of these to take your level to 35.

Level 35-45 Teak Logs

From this point forward, you now have access to teak logs, which yield a bit higher experience points when compared to the previous logs. These logs are unlocked when you reach level 35 Firemaking. However, you will need to light 373 willow logs to reach level 45.

Level 45-50 Maple Logs

Once you have reached this level, you can move on to maple logs, and you need to light 295 logs for a 5-level increase to level 50.

Overall, to reach level 50 Firemaking, you will need to light 1000 logs, which is a small amount compared to other skills. If you become quite handy to light the logs efficiently, you might be able to do this in less than an hour. From personal experience, I know a player who was able to reach level 50 through these levels in just 40 minutes.

Level 50-99 Wintertodt

Level 50 is a waypoint in Firemaking because you can now participate in a Wintertodt Mini-game.

In Wintertodt, you can get between 200k to 350k Firemaking experience points per hour.

Games Necklace

Wintertodt is located north of the Zeah library, but if you want to save time, you can use the teleport option on the game’s necklace. Take note that you do take damage periodically while you are inside the Wintertodt, but you take less damage if you have lower health and high Firemaking levels.

Warm Gear

Additionally, you can wear warm gear to reduce the damage you take while being inside. There is low requirement warm gear available in the market of OSRS.

It is recommended to obtain the Clue Hunter Outfit. It is, by far, the easiest garment to obtain because you only need a Spade and the ability to move things around. There are three spaces around OSRS, where you can dig with a Spade and obtain four pieces of the Clue Hunter clothing. Four is also the max number of warm gear that you can wear at Wintertodt.

Axe/Knife/Tinderbox

Other items that you are going to need in Wintertodt are an axe to chop trees and a tinderbox to light fires. You can also carry a knife to flesh some logs before lighting them and a hammer to fix the braiser when it breaks, which will also give construction experience as well.

Food

Since you take damage, you should also bring food to replenish your energy every now and then. Some players use wine if you have low HP, and you can easily survive if you bring some salmon or trout. If you do not want to waste your time going back and from the bank, you can purchase some Saradomin brew because they are not expensive.

Your task is simple in Wintertodt. You have to chop down the Bruma roots to feed the braziers with wood. If the brazier ever goes out, you can light it to obtain bonus points and experience.

If the Pyromancer ever dies, you can use a potion to revive him. Each round is very AFK, so you do not have to do anything else.

Quests That Give Firemaking EXP

Firemaking doesn’t have any low requirement quests that yield a lot of experience because it is such a fast skill on its own. But if you like doing quests, here are the quests that give Firemaking exp:

  • The Giant Dwarf – 1.5k exp
  • Heroes Quest – 1.5k exp
  • Enlightened Journey – 4k exp
  • Making Friends with My Arm – 5k exp
  • Enakhra’s Lament – 7k exp

Lighting Logs

OSRS does teach you how to light a log with a tinderbox in Tutorial Island, so you should have an idea of what tasks you have to do beforehand and how the fire-making skill works. Just for reference, you have to take the logs from the bank, light them in a line, and then run back. However, there are certain approaches you can take to light up more logs per hour.

Normally, you walk east to west when lighting logs, but you do have a couple of ticks between lighting the logs that you can move around a little bit. You can use this method to make sure that you are not that far away from the back when you deplete your log supply. Thus, you will not waste time walking back to the bank. You can also use this time in between to do other tasks.

Instead of trying to make your character walk back to the bank when making fires, you can use the Western Varrock Bank to grab the logs and then teleport to the Varrock square. Although it is not perfect, it is, in fact, faster than your average lighting method. Nevertheless, you still invest less time in fire-making training than other skills because it is a fast skill.
