Smithing is a production skill that helps you forge metal products from metal-based resources, like ore and metal bars, to turn into weapons or armor.
Like all skills, your end goal is to increase its ranks to level 99 to earn the highest benefits it has to offer. Therefore, it is important to know what methods you can take to increase your level in the quickest way possible.
Leveling Guide
Level 1 to 15
If, for some reason, you are not fond of quests or prefer to start from scratch, you can still level up your Smithing manually(we recommend doing Knight’s Sword Quest). From level 1 to level 15 Smithing, you can smith bronze items, which range from bars, weapons, and armor. Smith anything related to Anvil because they are located just southwest of the Varrock Bank. You’ll want to smith the item that requires the highest amount of bronze bars.
You will begin with bronze daggers and other items that only need one bar, but eventually, the items will require two and three bars as you progress through the levels. To reach level 15 Smithing, you will require 193 bronze bars.
It is important to know that each bar is worth the same amount of experience points no matter what you decide to make, and this mechanic is applied to every bar in OSRS when it comes to Smithing. What you are doing is Smithing the highest-level item you can and trying to use as many bars per item that you possibly can to quickly increase your level.
Level 15 to 30
Once you have reached level 15, you switch to iron items until level 30. Iron items yield more experience points than bronze items to make leveling up easier.
You will need 439 iron bars to reach level 30 if you are starting from level 15.
However, if you decide to do the “Knight’ Sword” quests, you will only need 26 iron bars to reach level 30. Ideally, you should do this quest to skip the first 29 levels and then forge iron items until level 30.
Level 30 to 40
From level 30, you will transition to steel bars, which greatly increases in regards to experience points. You can receive up to 70k experience per hour. However, the first thing you need to do is smelt steel bars at the blast furnace.
For many players, the blast furnace is the best way to increase your level to level 99. Additionally, you can also even more experience in the blast furnace if you wear ice gloves.
Ice Gloves can be obtained by killing the Ice Queen, who lives in White Wolf Mountain. It should be noted that she is not a difficult boss to beat, and acquiring these gloves is fairly simple.
It is also advised to unlock the Coal Bag from the Motherlode Mine. Although it is rather challenging to obtain this item, it will highly help you in your Smithing training. This is because the Coal bag will double your experience rates when smelting steel bars.
To reach level 40 Smithing from level 30, you will need 1,364 steel bars, and to make the steel bars, you will need to combine two coal with one iron ore to make each bar.
Level 40 to 99
Once you have reached level 40 Smithing and want to reach level 99 and acquire the Cape as fast as possible, you should make gold bars at the blast furnace.
Making gold bars in the furnace is the fastest Smithing experience that you can earn in OSRS. If you are very quick, there is a way where you can one-tick the dispenser and earn up to 400k experience points in one hour.
To smith gold bars, you will need to acquire Goldsmith Gauntlets, and these are earned as a reward from the “Family’s Crest” quest. With these items, you will be able to get around 300k experience points per hour in the blast furnace.
You will need 231,268 bars to increase your level from 40 to level 99 Smithing. It can become quite time-consuming smelting bars up to level 99, but it is one of the faster methods. Nevertheless, the biggest downside from smelting gold bars is how expensive it can become for some players.
Quests That Give Smithing EXP
There are a considerable amount of quests that you can complete to jumpstart your Smithing experience.
The first quest that you should do is the “Knight’s Sword” quest. By just doing and completing this quest, it will increase your Smithing level up to level 29 if you are at level 1.
Other quests that yield worthwhile experience points are the Elemental Workshop 1 and 2 quests. They do not have high-level requirements, except the “Elemental Workshop 2” quest. You must be at least level 30 Smithing to unlock it. However, if you do the previous quest and the first Workshop quest, it will take you above 30 level Smithing.
Afterward, you can do two other quests, the Giant Dwarf and Pirate Pete’s Recipe for Disaster subquest.
