Prayer is a strange skill since none of the methods require a specific level other than superior bones, which requires 70 prayer. It is also expensive to reach 99.

Quests That Give Prayer Experience

These are quests that you can do to gain prayer XP. You would want to do these quests at a lower level so that you get an early jump. 

These quests gives prayer experience with low requirements

• Priest in Peril
• The Holy Grail
• The Restless Ghost
• Ghosts Ahoy

For Restless Ghost, it takes about 5 to 10 minutes. It will start you off with prayer very well. Priest in Peril has higher requirements. These two quests are the requirements for Ghosts Ahoy. These three quests solid prayer XP. The Holy Grail quest gives 11,00 XP, and it is not very difficult to do. These quests can take you from level 1 to level 31 in prayer.

Prayer Items

Bonecrusher

The Bonecrusher is a reward from the Morytania Hard Diaries. With an activated Bonecrusher in your inventory instead of monsters dropping their normal bones, they are automatically buried for 50% XP than you get than if you bury them yourself and 10% for Morytania Elites.

Use one charge for every bone buried. You may also use the Bonecrusher necklace, which is a combination of the Bonecrusher and the dragon bone necklace.

The Dragon bone necklace has the same effect you get as when you are inside the catacombs when you bury a bone. You get prayer points for it.

If you combine a Bonecrusher, a dragon bone necklace, and a hydra’s tail, you get a Bonecrusher necklace. It does not make much of a difference, though.

Soul Bearer

The Soul Bearer is a reward from the Bare your soul mini-quest that takes 10 minutes unless you doRRn’t have teleports in which it may take you a lot longer.

Check out our Soul Bearer Guide if you are interested in getting it. If you have it in your inventory, it will send ensouled heads directly to your bank. It can be charged with one soul rune and one blood rune per charge.

Leveling Methods

Ensouled Heads

Ensouled heads are the most cost efficient way for you to reach level 99. You need to use the Arceuus spellbook which requires 60% of arceuus favor. Since you need to use the spell ensouled heads, there is a magic level requirement, depending on which ensouled head you will use.

Doing this will give you 330,000 to 350,000 XP per hour, and it will cost you 85-100 mil for level 99 Prayer.

If you choose a head from a slayer monster, you need the required slayer level to kill the monster. This way you get around 200,000 to 225,000 XP per hour and costs 60-70 mil GP for 99 Prayer level.

Gilded Altar at POH

In your own house, you may build a gilded altar at 75 construction. You can also build some incense burners, and when they are both lit, they give you a great amount of XP for using bones on them.

You get 3.5 times the normal XP you get when you bury the bones by using them on an altar.

Some players host their own homes as open homes, and you may use their altars instead if you don’t want to use yours in your home. You only need 1,000 bones per hour, and this gives great AFK.

Here you get 250,000 XP if you use dragon bones, and you also get 525,000 XP if you use superior dragon bones.

You need 70 prayers to use super dragon bones. You may also manually use the bones in the altar to speed up the XP rate, but this click intensive so you might get tired of it.

Ectofuntus

This gives you four times prayer XP per bone, and it costs you less money than if you use your bones on a gilded altar. However, this method is slower.

This is suggested for lower levels who do not have many bones to work with. You can’t just use bones in the ectofunctus. You have to grind the bones with a grinder and you have to hold the dust in pots.

Wilderness Altar

You can do this at level 38 and it works similar to a gilded altar when it comes to XP and gives the same 3.5 times XP boost.

You get a 50% chance on each bone with this altar in which the bone may be saved instead of sacrificed but still gives the same amount of Prayer XP. This way, your bones are doubled in terms of the XP they give you. You can use coins on the NPC outside to un note your bones.

Prayer Costs

From level 1-70, you need 737,627 XP and it will cost you around 3.5-5 mil GP.

For levels 70-77, you need 737,954 XP and it costs 3.5-5 mil GP also.

For levels 77-90, you need 3,870,751 XP and it costs 19-20 million GP.

Lastly for level 90-99, you need 7,688,099 XP and 38-40 million GP.

For all the way to level 99 from level 1, it is around 65-70 million GP.

Benefits of Having a Higher Prayer Level

When you level up your prayer, you unlock prayers that you can use. These prayers can be used.

Protection prayers are overpowered in the game as they have low requirements and they are really useful for a lot of quests. Piety, Rigour, and Augury are helpful for combat, especially with combats against high-level bosses.

You also restore more prayer points with prayer potions when you have higher prayer levels.

Level 99 Prayer is not a key to be a better player, but it is really useful. If you do a lot of boss battles, level 85 prayer level is a standard to easily beat bosses in OSRS.
