Gaining runecraft experience in old-school RuneScape can be slow even if you have enough gold to craft the items. Crafting a lot of tiaras is a fast way to raise that skill, but it costs a lot of gold.
Grinding the skill is necessary, but you can still do quests to raise your runecraft skill to some extent. The quests also have other rewards, so they are often worth it even if they don’t give a huge amount of runecraft experience.
Thankfully, there are quests that give you runecraft XP in old-school RuneScape, plus other rewards. Here is a table of all the quests that give runecrafting experience:
Quest | Runecrafting EXP Reward | Runecrafting Requirement |
The Ascent of Arceuus | 500 | |

You can get a total of 35,000 runecraft by completing these quests. This may not seem like a huge amount, but it will get you started at runecraft. To truly have a high runecraft skill, you have to grind. Save up some gold and make runes efficiently to raise your skill.
The Ascent of Arceuus
This relatively short, medium-difficulty quest gives a small amount of runecraft experience and some other rewards. You will get 2000 coins, a quest point, 1500 hunter experience, and an arceuus favor certificate. You will also get a page from a book of memoirs that will teleport you to the town of arceuus.
The quest involves the death of a member of a town full of immortal citizens. You have to figure out why the death was possible despite the immortality of the townsfolk. While the quest is relatively short, you will have to travel to a few different locations and kill a few different foes to complete it.
Enter the Abyss
This is the shortest and easiest quest you can do to get runecraft experience in old-school RuneScape. You do not even have to fight anything to complete this quest. Other than runecraft experience, you get a small pouch that lets you carry a few runes.
The quest is about secret rune essence mines that the zamorkians don’t know how to access. You must show the zamorkians how to access the mines so that they can learn to craft runes themselves.
The Slug Menace
This is a longer, higher-level quest that gives runecraft experience. You will have to defeat a level 62 slug prince and travel to many locations to complete it. You will get 3500 crafting experience, 3500 thieving experience, and the ability to use Prosylite armor.
The quest involves strange behavior in a small village, eventually leading to your character being tricked into releasing a slug prince that you will have to fight. You will have to craft runes to complete the quest.
Devious Minds
This quest is a bit short but is difficult. You will get 5000 fletching experience, 6500 smithing experience, and one quest point.
The plot involves an assassin that breaks into the island of Entrana to kill some monks and steal a relic. You are tricked into crafting an item that allows an assassin to teleport to the island.
The Fremennik Exiles
This quest is both long and difficult. You need to defeat some quite high-level creatures. You need both high-level crafting skills and high-level combat skills to have a chance at this quest. You will get two quest points, 15000 slayer experience, and 15000 crafting experience for this quest.
You will also get items and abilities for completing it. You will get the powerful V’s shield, the ability to travel to the island of stone, an honorific added to your name, and the ability to kill a Basilisk Knight as a slayer task. You cannot craft or use the Neitiznot faceguard without completing this quest. The quest involves saving an entire province from an enormous basilisk.
Lunar Diplomacy
Long
This is another long, hard, high-level quest that gives a significant amount of runecraft experience plus other rewards. You will get two quest points, access to the lunar isle / lunar spellbook / lunar astral altar, and the ability to use lunar spells. You will also get a seal of passage and 50 astral runes.
This is a long quest where you travel to the dream world, jump around on floating islands, cut down dream trees and fight high-level enemies. The final boss is relatively easy, but the quest is still difficult.
The Eyes of Glouphrie
This is somewhat shorter and easier than “Lunar Diplomacy” and “The Fremmenik Exiles” and is worth just as much runecraft experience. You can get two quest points, 12000 magic experience, 6000 runecraft experience, and 250 construction experience.
The quest is about a plot against the gnomes, one more powerful than their usual villain. Cute creatures that the gnomes use as pets turn out to actually be evil.
What Lies Below
What lies below gives you more runecraft experience than any other quest, even though it is nowhere near the hardest quest that gives runecraft experience. You will also get 2000 defense experience and one quest point. More importantly, you will get the beacon ring, a faster way to get to the chaos altar, and 5 kudos.
The quest is initially about someone losing some documents to bandits that attacked their cart. However, there turns out to be more to the story than that, and you will have to capture the leader of a shadowy group of wizards.
