OSRS Nightmare Zone Guide

Nightmare Zone Minigame Guide

In OSRS, the Nightmare Zone is a minigame where you can fight quest bosses that you have already slain. The overall objective of this minigame is to obtain melee experience and earn rewards. Many players consider the Nightmare Zone as one of the locations with the best melee experience rates in the game.

Although you can increase your range experience in the Nightmare Zone, it is best to use it for your Melee. Additionally, there are other places where you can train your Range level that is more worthwhile than this area.

Requirements

As said previously, the Nightmare Zone runs on quest bosses. Therefore, you should complete at least 5 quests of the ones listed below.

Recommended Quests Before Fighting Nightmare Zone

Some of the easiest quests you can do are the

  • Grand Tree
  • The Fight Arena
  • The Lost City
  • The Vampire Slayer
  • What Lies Below

These quests will unlock the Black Demon, Bouncer, Spirit Tree, King Roald, and Count Draynor, the Vampire, for the Nightmare Zone. Overall, these monsters are good starting points.

The more quests you do, the more bosses you can use, which is extremely helpful, especially if you want to increase your nightmare zone points/exp per hour.

Recommended Armor

Higher Budget Setup

Lower Budget Setup

Since most gear setups include Dharok Armor, it is suggested to have at least level 70 Melee stats or more (which includes Attack, Strength, and Defense). However, if you do not have this armor, do not worry as there are other great alternatives that you can employ that are easier to obtain.

You should bring your highest-leveled melee gear. It doesn’t matter if you have downgrade versions, like the Dragon boots or Amulet of Fury, these will still help you when fighting the bosses. Additionally, you should try to bring your Barrows Gloves, but if you are unable to, you can use a Combat Bracelet.

If you own Dragon Claws, a Granite Maul, or any weapon Special Attack weapons, you can earn more experience in the Nightmare Zone. However, it is not necessarily needed, but it is good to have a boost option when fighting certain bosses.

If you are trying to AFK some Range experience, the Nightmare Zone can be used, but it is not the best option, overall. Either way, you must try to apply the same approach and try to inflict all the damage you can. You can equip a Blowpipe with max Range gear, and Void may be useful in killing many monsters on your way. However, it may be too expensive to spend that many Dragon scales. A Crossbow is also a good option and will allow you to earn a decent Range experience.

Nightmare Zone Location

The Nightmare Zone is located north of Yanille, and it possesses its own Minigame teleport in your Minigame Tab, which makes this the easiest way to arrive there.

However, if you have never visited the Nightmare Zone before, there is a Fairy ring close by(Code: CIQ), or you can come from Ardougne and travel south.

Entering the Nightmare Zone

Basically, you have to set up your game to enter the Nightmare Zone. There are three different modes that you can use, which are Practice, Endurance, and Rumble.

However, of all these modes, Rumble is the one that allows you to customize which boss you are going to battle. You also need to deposit coins into the coffer before entering.

It will send four monsters at the same time, and the entire combat will not end until you either leave or you get killed.

Keep in mind that the Nightmare Zone is a safe minigame. If you die on a hardcore ironman, you will not lose your status.

How To Survive Long In The Nightmare Zone(Rock Cake/Locator Orb Method)

Another item that you should have is the Rock Cake or the Locator Orb from Dragon Slayer 2, which is slightly better to use.

To use this method, you need to buy potions from the NMZ reward box. Bring 7-8 overloads and the rest absorption potions.

Withdraw the potions.

You want to use the Rock Cake or the Locator Orb when entering the Nightmare Zone in order to bring your character down to 51 hitpoints, before finally drinking the overload potion, which should bring you down to 1 hp.

Finally, drink the absorption potion. Monsters will now only be able to hit a max hit of 1, and you should have 1000 stacks from the absorption potion, meaning you could get hit 1000 times at 1 HP before dying.

You can set up quick prayer to rapid heal in order to flick it and prevent your character from healing(use once per minute). This is optional since it makes it less AFK.

NMZ Normal or Hard Mode?

Additionally, you can choose the difficulty setting of the mode, which is Normal and Hard mode.

Generally, it is best to choose Hard mode because you earn more experience points from each boss, and all of their Stats are increased, except for their Defense level.

In other words, it doesn’t matter what difficulty setting you are fighting on; you will still be producing the same amount of damage on the monsters. However, monsters do inflict more damage on you.

The hard mode also costs more money than Normal mode, but the average cost is around 22k to 26k per trip. Thus, it is not a great money investment that you will do if you decide to combat in Hard mode.

To pay, you simply have to place the money on the coffers. It is important to know that before you enter the Nightmare Zone, you should know that there are certain potions that can only be used within its territory. These potions can be bought for the Nightmare Zone points in the Rewards Chest. However, if it is your first time going to the Nightmare, you will not have any points.

Either way, you should bring certain potions to help you survive the bosses. You can bring from two to three Prayer potions as well as Protect Melee. You have to be sure that you are fighting Melee’s bosses for the effects of the potions to work efficiently.

For example, all the Bosses mentioned previously in the Requirements are Meele’s bosses, and these potions will work wonders with them.
