In this overview, I’ll go over the Dinh’s Bulwark and determine if it’s worth your time or if any of its perks are simply found in better items in the game.
What is The Dinhs Bulwark?
The Dinhs Bulwark is a large two-handed shield created by the Lovakengi smith known as Dinh. The shield requires a Level 75 Attack and Defense to wield and can be obtained in the Chambers of Xeric is a rare item reward.
The shield comes with two separate abilities, one offensive and the other defensive. When performing a ” pummel ” a strength bonus, the offensive shield ability gives you when performing a “pummel” a strength bonus based on the average defense bonus from all of your combined gear.
The defensive ability ensures that any non PVP damage you take is reduced by 20% at the cost of being unwilling to attack.
When switching from “Pummel” to “Block”, you must wait 4.8 seconds before the damage reduction effect occurs. Similarly, when switching to “Pummel” from “Block”, you must wait 6 seconds before you can attack.
Where Does It Work Best?
The Wilderness
Over time, this item has gone through a few patches and updates. One of the biggest notes has been reducing its overall defensive capabilities. Despite this, Dinh’s Bulwark is still an incredibly capable item for defense, making it great while in the Wilderness.
Dealing with Dust Devils and Nechryael
The bulwark is also great when you’re attempting to tag Dust Devils and Nechryaels whenever bursting on a task. Using the shield’s special ability, “Shield Bash”, you can hit every monster within an 11×11 radius.
Defending Against Barbarians
Because of its incredibly high defensive stats, it is great when facing barbarians. If you’re looking to have a very high defense item in general, this shield is your “go-to” item, as it makes most scenarios much easier to deal with as a result.
Training Attack
This may sound strange (considering the item in question) but, because the shield can be used offensively, you can train your attack levels a fair bit when using Dinh’s Bulwark.
If doing some slayer quests with “retaliate” active, you could AFK 80k XP an hour with just Dinh’s Bulwark. While that’s not the best method in the game, it’s certainly impressive considering you’re using a shield.
So, Is The Dinh’s Bulwark Worth It?
All in all, the answer is yes. While not a definite option for every single player and playstyle, it’s something that many players will benefit greatly from and every player should at least have as an option.
If you’re someone that needs a high defense, acts as a tank in group GWDs, or trying to learn how to deal with boss monsters, there is a lot that makes the Dinh’s Bulwark worth your time. Similarly, even if you’re someone that wants to make some good gains to your Attack level (particularly AFK), this is also a great item that’s worth getting.
Ultimately, while it’s not the ultimate weapon, it is a very useful defense with some neat features that make it much better than a simple shield.
