Old School Runescape Brutal Black Dragons Guide

Brutal Black Dragons are pretty good AFK choices, and they will also leave you with a decent amount of money. On top of that, they are straightforward to kill, and so it takes no effort to grind out.

Requirements

As part of the requirements to kill Brutal Black Dragons, you will need 77 Slayer. It is recommended to get 37+ prayer for protect from magic. And 45 construction for a chapel with an oak altar or better.

This might seem a lot, but realistically they make much more money than some of the other monsters at the same slayer level.

Additionally, you will need 80+ Ranged to kill them at any sort of reasonable speed, which is also the level requirement to use blowpipes, and these are a great weapon to kill brutal dragons.

Note that although you can kill Brutal Black Dragons on a lower level if you’re trying to grind some out, the higher the level, the better for your range level.

Gear

The gear you use will have a direct effect on how fast you kill the dragons. Here is a list of the recommended gear that you should use and some decent replacements for each item.

Helmet

· Void Ranged Helmet. This is the best option for raging high levels, but if you can’t get one of them, you could opt for the Slayer Helmet instead. The best in terms of raging accuracy is Armadyl Helmet, but it is a little expensive considering the accuracy boost that it offers. In case you don’t have any of these, the Archer Helmet is your last option.

Cape

· Ava’s Assembler. This will give you a range and strength bonus and saves more ammo than any other Ava’s option. The Accumulator makes for a good replacement, and it is effortless to get.

Necklace

· Necklace of Anguish. This is a potent option for your necklace slot. As with Ava’s Assembler, it will you a strength bonus on top of being the best accuracy bonus among all of the other necklaces and amulets. Your second-best option would be the Amulet of Fury, followed by the Amulet of Glory.

Weapon

· Twisted bow or Dragon Hunter Crossbow. The weapons that you use will have a higher impact on how well you do. For your range slot, it is recommended to pick a twisted bow with amethyst arrows. Since it is so expensive, you could instead pick a Dragon Hunter Crossbow, which still has good speed, and use diamond bolts to increase damage.

· Twisted Buckler. The anti-dragon shield isn’t essential, but in any way, the best ranging shield is the Twisted Buckler. A suitable replacement is the Odium Ward.

The next options are the Blowpipe and Rune Crossbow with enchanted diamond bolts.

Chest and Legs

· Void Top and Bottom. The next best options are the Armadyl and Blessed D’Hide, which has a prayer bonus.

Gloves

· Void Gloves. Barrows gloves are the best raging gloves in OSRS unless you’re wearing void in which scenario you would have to wear Void gloves. To get the Barrow Gloves, you will have to finish a recipe for disaster. Your best next option is Blessed D’hide Vambraces, followed by Black D’hide Vambraces.

Boots

· Pegasian Boots. These are the best boot option when it comes to range, followed by Ranging Boots. The price difference between the two is almost non-existent, so consider getting the Pegasian.

Ring

· Archer’s Ring. This is the best ring in the game for ranging, and it is recommended to imbue them to double the stats.

Inventory

  • Divine Ranging Potions(or the best one you can get).
  • (Extended) Antifire Potions.
  • Super Restore Potions.
  • House Teleports.
  • Xeric’s Talisman.
  • Rune Pouch.
  • Bank Teleport

Brutal Black Dragons Location

The dragons can be found in the Catacombs of Kourend on the northwestern side of the dungeon. There is a shortcut to enter the catacombs directly in the room where the dragons are at, but you must use the said shortcut from the inside one time before you can use it. Here is the shortcut and where you can bank also:

You can enter the catacombs from the center of Kourend at the giant statue. Use the Xeric’s Talisman to take you to near the shortcut.

How To Kill Brutal Black Dragons

Turn your quick prayers on and your best offensive range prayer and protect from magic, take a sip of your antifire, and head on in.

The Dragons will attack you with magic, which you will be protected from, as well as dragon fire and a melee attack. Nevertheless, they will only use the melee attack if you are standing close enough, so as long as you keep a reasonable distance between you and them, you really should not take a lot of damage. Make sure that your prayers and antifire doesn’t run out.

If you get killed, simply use the Xeric’s Talisman to get back. Dying won’t cost you any money, and you won’t lose any items either. Brutal Black Dragons are simple to kill, and it shouldn’t take you more than two or three trips to get it going.

Loot/Drop Table

Brutal Black Dragons can drop a draconic visage at a 1 in 10,000 rate. Other than that they don’t have any other drop higher than 200,000 and the visit is just a bonus. In this way, RNG is not a huge factor here, but they do have a solid drop table on their regular drops.

They have a unique table, though, that you have a 1 in 128 chance to hit. Items like Dragon platelegs, Dragon plateskirt, Dragon spear, and Uncut Dragonstone are suitable for ironmen, but otherwise, they are not game-breakers.

If you pay full attention to it instead of opting to go AFK, you could be looking at 1.2 to 1.3 mil an hour, which is good considering the task of killing brutal dragons is not all that difficult. Of course, if you have mid-level gear or mid-level range, you should expect something under that 1m/1hr rate.

Overall you can get good money from doing this and even doing a little AFK if you feel like it since it’s easy to multitask with other things while gaining a little more range XP.
