Old School Runescape is full of content. The game has many quests and items and also a plethora of bosses and enemies that will try to prevent you from getting the best items OSRS offers. There are many bosses in OSRS, and Alchemical Hydra is one of the most notable. Below is a detailed Alchemical Hydra guide.

What is the Alchemical Hydra?

The Alchemical Hydra is a boss in the OSRS Hydra and was created by Karuulm, a Dragonkin who created the beast but cast it aside because the Alchemical couldn’t replicate any traits. The beast shifts its appearance as you progress through the stages. For instance, the beast begins the stage with five heads but shifts from blue to green. The creature will change to black before it dies.

The colors represent the rudimental traits of the beast, and it will take advantage of them as the battle progresses. You will get 1320XP if you beat the creature with a combat level of 426.

Requirements

  • Attack 90+
  • Hitpoints 90+
  • Defence 90+
  • Prayer 80+
  • Ranged 85+
  • Kourend Elite Diary (Recommended)

The most important stats are the hit count and defensive stats. They will help sustain the heavy attacks by the creature.

The range is also essential because you don’t want to get closer to the best. Do as much damage as you can from far.

Hydra Gear/Inventory Setup

Gear

Apart from strategy, weapons, gear, and inventory can make the battle smooth. Below are the best items to have for the battle.

Weapons: Twisted Bow and the Toxic Blowpipe or the toxic blowpipe/dragon crossbow if you don’t have the twisted bow.

Armor: Barrows gloves, Slayer Helmet, the boots we mentioned above, Archer’s ring, Ava’s Assembler, Necklace of Anguish, among others.

Inventory

Inventory setup: Adamant darts, Super Restores, Antidote++, quality food, alch setup in rune pouch and super ranging potions.

Alchemical Hydra Location

Players should wear granite, brimstone, or stone boots to combat unwanted heat damage in the dungeon. You won’t need such specific items if you have accomplished Elite Koruend Kebos because you won’t be affected by the damage.

You will find the Alchemical Hydra in Mount Karuulm at the lower stages of the Karuulm Slayer dungeon. Note that you must descend deeper into the mountain before meeting the beast.

This area is found in the northern part of Kebos Lowlands and is known for its blue color because of sulfur. Areas closer to Mount Karuulm include Lovakenj, located on the west side.

Use fairy ring code CIR or Rada’s blessing to get to the Alchemical Hydra.

You can reach this area easily if you teleport directly to the summit. A player must teleport to the summit using Rada’s Blessings 3 or 4. The next closest is Fairy Ring code CIR.

You can also use the Battlefront teleport, farming cape or skills necklace to teleport you to a nearby farming guild.

Is it An Instanced Fight?

Yes, this is an instanced battle, meaning a unique location is formed for each player that visits this part of the map.

Every boss battle is unique, and only you can redeem item drops, and you can’t view other players when they visit the same area.

Alchemist Hydra Immunities

The Alchemist Hydra comes with two pure immunities.

Venom is useless and can’t affect the creature.

Poison, so save your poison-based attacks.

Using tactics that aim to wear down the beast’s HP isn’t possible. Adjust your approach while keeping this in mind.

Alchemical Hydra Special Attacks

If you see the poison attack, move a couple of tiles away and pray ranged to avoid the poison attack. This is also why we bring an antidote++.

The second phase is when the hydra is blue. He will shoot out four electrical tornados that will chase after you. If these hit, they freeze you and deal around 10 damage each. Pray mage and run away from him.

The third Special attack is on the third phase when the Hydra is red. He will wall you off and shoot fire around you. To avoid this, you should move or you’ll be hit by fire, dealing 10-20 damage and hitting you 5 times in a row on top of the initial damage. This is the most punishing special attack, so avoid getting hit at all costs.

Ranged attack: This is a standard attack with a damage of 55. It’s in the form of a sharp projectile that’s solid-colored.

Strategy to defeat the Alchemical Hydra

You should lure the Hydra during each phase to these spots marked in the picture below; if he is not lured, the damage will be reduced by 75%, making your kills much slower. His damage is also increased by up to 50%. Each phase is also marked with the exact tile to stand on in yellow. For the last phase, P4, when the Hydra turns grey, you do not need to lure him; fight him regularly.

You should first know the attacks that the creature will launch. The first attack will be a magic attack based on the chemical phase before a standard ranged attack.

Magic attack: This attack varies depending on the battle’s phase. The base damage of the magic attack is the same as the ranged attack of 55.

Magic attacks receive a 50 percent buff that can be decreased to 75 percent if the creature is lured over the proper chemical vent at the start of every stage. The attack appears like a colored cloud and can be fire, poison sludge, or lightning.

Strategy

You’ll need to count to three to defeat this beast. The creature will start with any of the two attacks before switching to the other. You have to monitor the attack pattern of the monster because it will switch attacks for the whole fight. Flick the prayer to range or mage to negate damage in case the beast changes attacks.

The monster will move on to the next phase once the health decreases to 75 percent. It will change to a blue color and lose one of its heads. It will receive a 50% boost to its magic damage. Luring the monster to the right chemical vent will deal with the magic damage.

You also have to repeat the process when the Hydra changes to red.

The fire maze attack is the most dangerous and requires planning. Turn your run function off a walk slowly, avoiding the fire when it appears. A hit from a fire maze attack will cause 20 initial damage.

The monster doesn’t have chemical boosts at the final level and will rely on poison attacks. It will switch attacks after every attack, and you have to flick your prayers keenly. This is the key to taking down the Alchemical Hydra. You can then teleport out and gather your loot.
