Considered a relatively simple skill, thieving can net you a fair amount of gp as you start the game. What’s more, because thieving works based on your overall level, the more that you do, the more money you’ll ultimately make. This guide will go over everything you’ll need to know and have to optimize your thieving playthrough.

Ideal Equipment

Rogue’s Equipment

When going out thieving, you’ll want to wear the Rogue’s Equipment gear. This is great as each piece of gear gives you a 20% chance of doubling your loot whenever pickpocketing someone. When combined, there are five pieces. You’ll have a 100% chance of doubling your loot when pickpocketing.

It requires a Level 50 in Agility and a Level 50 in Thieving. You can obtain this gear at the Rogue’s Den.

Dodgy Necklace

The Dodgy Necklace is also highly suggested when thieving. This silver jewelry is fairly inexpensive but can greatly reduce the amount of time spent dealing with a failed pickpocket. While wearing this, if you fail a pickpocket, you’ll have a 25% chance of ignoring stun or suffering damage. This allows you to move much more quickly as you won’t have to worry about the time lost from being stunned.

Each necklace has 10 charges, so it’s advised that you have at least 3 with you while leveling up your thieving.

Ardougne Diaries

This consists of two different types: the Medium Diaries and the Hard Diaries. The Ardougne Diaries are a great item to help with thieving. The Medium Diaries grant a 10% increase to pickpocketing while in Ardougne. On the other hand, the Hard Diaries grant the same 10% boost in pickpocketing, but anywhere.

Best Places To Thieve

Nature Rune Chest

A fairly simple method of thieving, the Nature Rune Chest questline requires a level 28 Thieving and is fairly regular around the area.

There are two in Ardougne on the far-eastern square of the map. There, you’ll need a lockpick to open the door (though not the chests themselves). The chest contents will be a randomized nature rune along with three coins.

The good news is that the chest automatically refreshes when you close them. This means that every time you open that same chest, you’ll be able to get another rune and three more coins.

You won’t make a ton of money here (generally maxing out at 50k per hour); however its low level certainly makes it worth considering for people starting.

Master Farmers

Another simple method of making money while thieving, Master Farmers, requires a level 38 Thieving to start but a level 60-90+ level if you want to make the higher amounts of gp while playing.

When you go to Ardougne, there is a Master Farmer to the far north of the area that you can pickpocket. Remember that he is just outside of the Ardougne itself, so don’t expect the Medium Diaries to help you with your pickpocketing.

You can make the most money by pickpocketing Ranarr Seeds. This can net you between 250k – 500k per hour at the mid-levels, while higher-level characters can make upwards of a milli9n per hour.

Pyramid Plunder

One of the more complex areas you’ll head to, Sophanem, and play the minigame Pyramid Plunder. You’ll need to complete the Icthlarin’s Little Helper quest to enter the city.

While you technically only need a level 21 in Thieving to complete the quest, as much of your gp (and overall success rate) depends on your thieving level, it is highly suggested that you are at least level 71 to maximize your profits.

If you do want to start at the lower levels, you can make an impressive amount of gains in terms of EXP, though you’ll lose out on most gp gains.

Though it is rare, the Pharaoh’s Scepter is a huge find while going through the area and, if found, is worth between 4 and 5 million gp, easily making it worth your time clearing the area. The only thing is to remember that it is random, so don’t be too upset if you can’t find it on your first go-through.

Ardounge Knights

You can make around 200-280k an hour thieving Ardounge Knights.

Tzhaars

You can make 400-500k gp/hr on Tzhaars.

Rogue’s Chest

Finally, the Rogue’s Chest is located in the Deep Wilderness for the fairly capable thieves and ideally requires a level 84 Thieving. This area is pretty dangerous due to the number of PKers (Player Killers), so you’ll also want to have at least a level 43 in Prayer.

The Rogue’s Chest is located at the Rogue’s Castle, where you’ll need a slashing weapon to get to the area past the spiderwebs. Once there, you’ll be confronted by many rogues that will attack you at all times, even while trying to open the chest.

You are liable to make between 350k to 450k of gp per hour, though this is largely dependent on how you deal with the PKers that may appear in the area.
