In OSRS, the Nightmare of Ashihama is an overworld fiend-like boss that can be battled when you have access to Morytania. However, this place is located east of Gielinor and can only be accessed by players in the members’ world. If you have other specific guides concerning this boss, you might have read to max gear and max melee to succeed in the fight.
Nonetheless, there are specific strategies that you can employ to slay this boss in the least challenging way possible. In OSRS, there are many approaches you can choose to defeat this fiend.
How to Prepare Yourself (Gear-Wise)
The Nightmare of Ashihama attacks with ranged attacks and magic most of the time. Therefore, she can wreck in a heartbeat if you do not prepare your switches properly. First of all, you should improve certain stats before selecting certain gear. It is recommended to have high Ranged Defense and high Magic Defense because these represent the Nightmare’s preferred attack style.
In regards to gear, you swap out rings for a Brimstone to further enhance your Defense. As for footwear, the Guardian boots are an excellent option. These boots will bestow you 24 extra Range Defense points. Additionally, Barrows gloves are the best option since they provide a Defense bonus. Many players like to equip the Ferocious gloves since they have higher Attack points, but they do not provide any Defense bonus. For this reason, they are less effective than Barrows gloves.
Another great gear option is Dinh’s bulwark. It will give you: 38 extra Melee strength, a Crush bonus of 110, and an Attack and Defense enhancement. Specifically, your character will receive about 140 different Range Defense and additional points in Slash and Stab. Overall, this wear is appropriate for your first kill when you are trying to understand the mechanics of battling the Nightmare. Many players have this bulwark as a back-up because it can help you in certain situations where your Prayer is depleted and allows the boss to miss her attacks from 10 to 15%.
You should also bring a Magic Staff and an Occult item, like the necklace, so that it can enhance one of your main weapons, the Trident of the Sea. Although the Occult necklace is not required for this step, it will certainly make the battle more efficient and quicker to end if you prepare yourself adequately beforehand. Other players prefer to use the Toxic Trident and the Sanguinesti Staff.
Nightmare of Ashihama Location
In OSRS, there are three different ways to reach the Nightmare of Ashihama. By far, the best option is using an item known as Drakken’s Medallion, which is obtained as a reward from the “A Taste of Hope” quest in the game. Once you have acquired this item, it will allow you to teleport yourself without any restriction to the Ver Sinhaza area. You can also teleport to the Darkemeyer location, but only after you have succeeded in the “Sins of the Father” mission.
Using the medallion, you can teleport to the Theater of Blood Bank. You can swap your gear and store your resources every time you complete a kill in this location. The bank is located near the tally spot, and from this point, you will need to travel north. Here you will find the Rowboat to Port Phasmatys, which are the other two options that you can use to reach the Nightmare.
Anyhow, continue traveling north, going past the Rowboat, and you will come across to a series of dungeons. The Nightmare of Ashihama is explicitly located in the Eastern Dungeon in Slepe.
The other two ways of reaching the boss are through an Ectophiel, which will teleport you to the Worship Ectofuntus. You will need to travel north and pay a boat y take you to the port located near the Eastern Dungeon from this location. You will need to pay 10,000 coins as a boat fare. Additionally, you will only need to complete the Priest in Peril mission to access this section of the world map.
The and third and final way to reach the Nightmare is by traveling or teleporting to Frankenstein’s Castle. The castle is located west of Port Phanmatys, where you pay the boat to take you to the Eastern Dungeon. Therefore, you will only need to travel to the east of the castle, reach the port and pay the fare so it can transport you where this boss is located.
Upon arriving at the Eastern Dungeon, please enter it. From the entrance, you must continue east, following the only pathway available until you reach a set of stairs that will take you north. The first time you encounter the Nightmare, you will need to talk to the Guard before battling it. The guard is called Shara, and she will inform you briefly about the risks of the Nightmare of Ashihama.
Overall Battle Strategy
In general, the battles against the Nightmare of Ashihama are rather lengthy and time-consuming. Thus, you must bring a good stock of brews, around six to seven, and some super Combat potions (from 2 to 3). These Combat potions are needed so you can boost yourself back up again when you deem it necessary. Other goods that will help you are Relicym’s balm.

Relicym’s balm is quite handy when you enter the second phase of the battle. In the second phase, the Nightmare will unleash some parasites, which will battle you alongside the boss. However, if you drink this item, it will avoid getting infested from these parasites and reduce damage. If you do not consume this potion, your Health will be drained far more rapidly. Believe me; these parasites can cost you the battle.
Additionally, you must also bring some food to restock yourself since the battle is very long. The Sanfew serum is another great way to replenish yourself without consuming your inventory space. Apart from restoring you, the Sanfew serum can also cure you of the parasites, making it a great alternative to have in your resources or supply. Some players also like to consume certain items to boost their Health Points against the boss, like the Anglerfish, which grants a 120 HP bonus.
