Terror dogs require at least a level 40 slayer to kill. You usually encounter them first during the Lair of Tarn Razorlor mini-quest, where you have to fight two terror dogs alongside a couple of animated armor in addition to Tarn Razorlor. After completing this, you will only deal with more terror dogs in the room where you have previously battled with Tarn Razorlor.
Aside from this, it’s important to note that fighting these Terror dogs can become very dangerous since there’s the threat of having multiple dogs attack you all at once. Reaching the end of the Tarn’s Lair without a Slayer ring will prove to be a daunting task. If you are not up for it, this task should be skipped.
Should You Kill Terror Dogs?
Usually, yes, it’s best recommended that you kill them. The relatively decent EXP and easy task make them worthwhile pursuits despite not having great drops. They’re fairly a quick task, especially if you have the teleport that allows you to get to them through the Slayer ring. If you don’t have that, you will have to run through the maze, an alternative yet challenging option to take.
Requirements
- Lair of Tarn Razorlor Mini-Quest
- 40 Slayer
What You Can Expect
Terror dogs are generally weak to everything. You should also be knowledgeable of certain melee setups, primarily because these dogs attack with a melee-based style, with max hits of 11. This means that they hit very high, making you less able to come through with range or mage.
Here you can expect:
- 1/128 hard clues
- 500 GP per kill

Terror Dogs Location
Abandoned Mine
Terror dogs are located in the Abandoned Mine, west of Burgh de Rott.
Here’s how to the Abandoned Mine:
- Slayer Ring. This is the best method, as you can teleport right outside of where the terror dogs are located, which you can unlock using 75 Crafting and the ability through a Slayer Unlock. Otherwise you have to run through Tarn’s Maze once inside the Abadoned Mine.
- Mory Legs 3. This requires a Morytania Hard Diaries but is the second-best option.
- Fairy Ring (BIP). This teleports you to the northwest of the map. From there, simply take the agility shortcut and run south.
- Mort’ton Tele. With this, you can buy a teleport scroll from the Grand Exchange, which can be quite pricey, but you can opt for the minigame teleport in your sidebar.
Inventory
You’d also need the proper inventory before going to Tarn’s Lair. You’d need:
- Dragonhide armor
- Suit and combat set
- Stamina Potion
- Prayer potion
- Good gear
- Summer pies (food best for healing since they heal 22 HP in total)
Tarn’s Lair
Going to tarn’s Lair using the Slayer ring is the fastest means to reach the room with the Terror Dogs. However, if you don’t have it, you’ll have to reach the place yourself on foot. Doing so is a dangerous option, especially for low-level players, which is why it’s recommended to bring the inventory listed above.
It’s also important to note that before going into this area – particularly if you’re traveling by foot – you would want to avoid certain traps in the ground and on the walls. Here, it’s best to turn off your auto-retaliate as it will aid you in going forward through the maze. Stay on the north side and west side so you can avoid certain traps situated along the way.
On the other hand, players with slayer rings can utilize a certain strategy to hide in small crevices in the room (Tarn’s room), which is just north of the terror dogs, and then wait until they develop tolerance to you. Doing so makes attacking them less risky than usual.
At this point, make sure that you log out to check for tolerance because any terror dog that remains aggressive to the player will keep doing so until they exit the room, even if the other dogs aren’t any more aggressive. Such action will also let other dogs stop targeting you and just resort to wandering around.
Furthermore, keep in mind that Terror Dogs are just like hellhounds in the sense that they tend to have accurate and hard hits but otherwise possess very low Defence. Also, unlike hellhounds, these dogs can attack all at once, which is why players should be aware that the room with Terror Dogs will quickly drain you at a 1 point per two-game ticks speed rate, or at least 50 points for every minute.
