OSRS Is Barrows Gear Worth Getting?

Barrows Armor

Acquired in the Barrows minigame, the Barrows equipment armor comes in several different types based on the type of player. These include the Torag, Ahrim, Dharok, Karil, Verac, and Guthan armor types.

Torag the Currupted’s Set

Starting our list off is the Torag armor set. Officially known as “Torag the Corrupted”, the Torag armor set is melee-based. You’ll need a Level 70 in Defense to wear the armor and a Level 70 in Attack and Strength to use the weapon.

Torag’s

Torag’s armor gives the ability known as Corruption which has a 25% chance of lowering your opponents’ run energy by 20% when hit.

Pieces of this armor set are ideal when dealing with slayer quests and against boss-type monsters, because they give high defensive stats. Even then, a few options are better later on this list.

Ahrim the Blighted’s Set

Given the official title of “Ahrim the Blighted”, this armor set requires a Level 70 in Defense and Magic for the armor. It also requires a Level 70 in Attack and Magic to wield the weapon.

Ahrim’s

This magic armor set comes with the ability known as “Blighted Aura” which gives every successful magical attack a 25% chance of reducing your opponent’s strength by 5 levels.

This is on the weaker side of the different armor sets, with an ability that isn’t great overall. Both Ahrim’s Robeskirt and Robetop are pretty good but only compared to all of the other pieces.

If you plan to use this armor set, you’re going to want to use this against Boss monsters, as magical accuracy is more necessary than against other opponents.

Dharok the Wretched’s Set

Officially titled “Dharok the Wretched”, this equipment armor set is melee-based and requires a Level 70 in Defense to use the armor as well as Level 70 in Attack and Strength to wield the weapon.

Wearing this gear gives you the ability, “Wretched Strength”, which essentially increases your attack damage as your HP goes down.

Dharok

Unfortunately, you’ll need to wait until your HP drops to around 10 pts and you have a hitpoint level of 90+ before using this gear set, as wearing it before that threshold makes the damage output not nearly worth your time when compared to other weapons or armors available. People use the rock cake or locator orb to bring their HP down low before using this set, often using protective prayers after.

When you can use this setup, this set is great against Moles, Strength Training in Nightmare Zone, and Pest Control areas. It’s also good in PvP.

The downside to this setup is that it’s only really worth it if you’ve got all the pieces. If you’ve only got one or two, it’s not worth your time.

Karil the Tainted’s Set

Known officially as “Karil the Tainted”, the Karil armor set requires the wearer to have a Level 70 in Defense and Ranged to use the armor and the weapon. It is a ranged armor set while also having some of the better magical defenses in the game.

Karil

The armor’s set bonus is called “Tainted Shot” and gives the player a 25% chance of reducing an opponent’s agility by 20% when hit.

As mentioned above, this armor set is ideal for defending against magical attacks. You’ll find it most useful against Krakens, Dagannoth Kings, and Hespori (to name a few). While it is a pretty impressive magic defense item, it’s not that impressive damage-wise, there are better options out there.

Verac the Defiled’s Set

Next is Verac’s gear set. More officially known as “Verac the Defiled”, this armor set is another melee-based option. You’ll need a Level 70 in Defense as well as Attack.

Verac

Its bonus is known as “Defiler” and gives you a 25% chance of ignoring your opponent’s Defense, armor, and Prayer Protection while in combat.

Because of its bonus, this setup is great against boss monsters with high defense levels, like Callisto or the Kalphite Queen. It may be tempting to use this in PvP, but it isn’t recommended because the chance isn’t quite high enough to help you in an intense fight.

In terms of individual pieces, both Verac’s Helm and Verac’s Plateskirt are pretty good on their own and can be used by themselves. If you don’t plan on using the entire setup, these are worth considering in their own right.

Guthan’s Set

Finally, the Guthan armor set, more officially known as Guthan the Infested, is another melee option. It requires a Level 70 in Defense and Attack and is considered an HP armor set.

Guthan’s

Of all of them, Guthan’s “Infestation” bonus ability is considered the most useful. This gives the player a 25% chance of healing whenever dealing damage to an opponent. The amount healed is relative to the amount of damage caused by the attack.

This is great against random slayer tasks and in dealing with boss-level monsters. It’s also an ideal option for those who want to maximize their inventory space. You can also use this set to great effect in the God Wars Dungeon at Cerberus.

Unfortunately, the individual pieces themselves aren’t super great on their own. They aren’t terrible. However, there are better options overall in tanking.

Is Barrow’s Armor Worth It?

Ultimately, it depends on your playstyle and the armor set you’re interested in getting. Overall, all armor sets are great and well worth it except Ahrim and Torags, which isn’t useful in most situations.

Otherwise, if you consider getting these, while they aren’t perfect in every scenario, they’ve got a lot going for them and are definitely worth using if you’ve got the time and the resources.
