Introduction
Iron ore is found commonly throughout the OSRS game and is used for many different things and is constantly in demand due to its use in producing iron and steel bars. There are several ways and locations to mine iron ore in the game, with advantages and disadvantages. Let’s start with the requirements you need to be able to mine iron ore.
Requirements
- You need 15+ mining to start mining iron ore.
- 60+ mining if you want to access the mining guild
Gear&Inventory Setup
I use prospector gear and Varrock armor with the dragon pickaxe and the amulet of glory. You get a higher gem rate by using the amulet of glory, so use that if you can. Get the best pickaxe you have access to. Also get a gem bag if you can.
Best Locations For Mining Iron Ore
One of the best ways to access iron ores mining is to join the Mining Guild. It requires at least lvl 60 in mining. The mining guild also provides many advantages, including increased likelihood of finding unidentified minerals, decreased re-spawn timer for the ore (there is no downtime between ore re-spawning), and a boost to your mining ability(7+ invisible boost). Access the Mining Guild at Falador using your Skills Necklace.
If banking, you get around 30-60k EXP/hour mining here and around 850-1700 iron ore per hour.
An alternative to joining the Mining Guild is going to the Trahearn Mine. Located under Prifddinas, Trahearn Mine lets you obtain large amounts of iron ore by quickly accessing a bank deposit box.
Although you won’t be able to obtain unidentified minerals here, you may find crystal shards, each worth up to 12k coins. Once you get to Prifddinas, use an eternal teleport crystal to access the Trahearn Mine. If you’ve completed the Song of the Elves quest, you can use the spirit tree network to access the Trahearn Mine. This location is ideal for ironmen if you want to bank quickly, as the mine cart is very close.
