Dark totem pieces and Ancient shards can be farmed in several ways. If you care about efficiency and making the most out of your time in the game, you will want to know what is the fastest way to farm them. if you want to get this method right, you need to use a magic setup and follow the method as described.
Requirements
- Slayer helm. You want to have it imbued to get a 15% boost to Magic, if on a slayer task extend these.
- Ancient staff. This is required as for this method you will use two spells to farm.
- Ring of wealth will automatically collect coins for you instead of seeing GP dropped on the ground.

Dust Devils Location
This method only works in the Catacombs of Kourend. This massive catacomb can be found in Great Kourend. The entrance is found by investigating the statue of King Rata I. To get to Great Kourend, you have several travel options. The easiest way is to use the fairy rings code CIS which will take you to the Arceuus Library. From there, it is a short walk to the statue. You can also use Xeric’s talisman with the “Xeric’s Heart” function if you have it. The talisman will teleport you right next to the statue of King Rada I, where you enter.
How to Farm Dark Totems
You will be farming dust devils. Dust devils have a good drop rate for Dark totems and you can kill a large number of them per hour. They are weak to magic thus you will not need an excessive amount of magic bonus. To maximize this strategy, you need the Ring of wealth to avoid spending time collecting loot off the floor.
What you will want to do is to look for a place where there are many of them in one small area. You will want to position yourself in a corner. Use Protect from Melee Prayer before doing anything. This will help you mitigate the damage you would take from them. From that position, you can use Ice Burst or Ice Barrage. Before you start using these spells on them, you want to use the bronze darts on them just to attack them once and have them all attack you.
Do this on as many dust devils as you can. You want them all clumped up on you while you are sitting in the corner. Once all of them are clumped up, start killing them with either of the two previously mentioned spells.
Because this guide is for a magic setup, you will want to keep an eye on your Protect from melee prayer and hit points. You can have as many as 8 dust devils attacking you at the same time. If you are not careful, you can die.
You get a good amount of XP, you get magic XP and you can get valuable drops such as Ancient shards. With this method, you get to kill a very high number of dust devils in a relatively short amount of time. You will also get a high number of Dark totems while doing this, which is the main point for doing it in the first place.
