Salmon and trout are the most commonly used type of fish in OSRS. Catching them is relatively simple and you do not need a lot of things to get started. They are also great for training your cooking skill and you will find yourself using salmon and trout quite often to manage your health at lower combat levels.
Requirements
- Level 20 fishing for trout
- Level 30 fishing for salmon
- Fly fishing rod
- Feathers
Location
You can fish for trout and salmon in several places in OSRS. For this guide, the preferred spot is just west of Varrock in Barbarian Village.
Once in Varrock, you will need to get to a specific spot where you can fish for salmon and trout. The place is right next to the Barbarian Village, close to the bridge towards Varrock. From Varrock, it is a quick walk to the spot. You will most likely find other players fishing there thus the spot is easy to recognize.
How to Fish for Salmon and Trout
You can get feathers from the Grand Exchange. They are cheap and there are loads of them. If you do not want to pay for feathers, you can always farm them yourself from chickens from the many farms that you can find throughout the game. You can find a chicken farm just north of Lumbridge, on the right side of the river.
Once you get to the spot, you just start fishing right away. When your inventory is full you can either drop the fish or you can cook it to level up your cooking skill. Keep in mind that the experience you get from fly fishing is much better than what you would get from something like lobster catching.
