Old School Runescape Demonic Gorillas Guide
Although gorillas require a lot of effort to kill initially, they are one of the best PVM money-makers in OSRS, so overall it is completely worth the trouble. Before we jump ahead into the actual guide to fight them off, let’s take a look at some of the things you might need to bring with you when you are fighting demonic gorillas.
Quest/Stats Requirements
It should be noted that one of the requirements is for you to have completed Monkey Madness 2 to unlock Demonic Gorillas.
You will also need to be 80+ combat stats. Magic Spells and Protection Prayers will be needed (70+ prayer recommended).
Gear Setup
When it comes to gear, here are the basics of what you should armor yourself with.
Example Setup
Best In Slot
More Affordable
· Slayer Helm. If you don’t have one of these, the Serpentine Helm, the Helm of Neitiznot, Void Melee and Ranged, as good options as well.
· Infernal Cape. You can also use a Fire Cape or Ardy Cloak.
· Ava’s Assembler. This will come in handy for ranging activities.
· Amulet of Torture/Necklace of Anguish. These will help you do some solid damage. You can bring an Amulet of Fiery to switch between.
· Rada’s Blessing 4. Achieved after completing all the elite Kourend & Kebos Diary tasks, you can wear this for extra prayer bonus.
Now for weapons, it will considerably depend on your range, but you have a few options to fill your slots.
· Arclight. This is the best melee weapon against any demon, and it is fairly easy to obtain. The next best option is a Ghrazi Rapier, followed by an Abyssal Tentacle.
· Twisted Bow or Blowpipe. Karil’s Crossbow is a good option too.
· Avernic Defender. This might not be needed at all, but it is good to bring a ranged shield as the Avernic Defender or, in any case, the Dragon Defender.
· Barrows Gloves. These are the best for range and second-best for Melee. It is not needed, but you can bring Ferocious gloves to switch.
· Primordial Boots. The best melee boots in the game followed by Dragon Boots, which are a way cheaper alternative.
· Berserker Ring. To fill the ring slot, this is definitely your best option, and you should imbue it if possible to double the stats. You could also use a Brimstone Ring or a Ring of Suffering.
Inventory
Among your Ranged Switches, it is a good idea to have between 3 to 4 of these.
Your top priority switch is, without doubt, your weapons since it that’s the only way to do range damage.
You will also want to make sure to bring an Ava’s, and the boots and amulet switches if you can afford too.
Killing Demonic Gorillas
Now on the actual process of killing Demonic Gorillas, there isn’t a very straightforward path to follow. You will need to be consistent and master the task of switching gear and prayer. It is not exactly a difficult thing to accomplish, but again, persistence is key.
As for their attacks, the bad thing is that they don’t always show you what they are attacking you with over their head. They can use all three styles of attack:
- A range attack that looks like they pick up a white rock and throw it at you. You want to pray ranged here:
- A melee attack, where they basically swipe with their claws. Pray melee here:
- A magic attack which appears in the form of a green blob. Pray mage here:
- Finally, it can do a combo attack with a boulder toss followed by magic. Pray magic here:
To begin with, Gorillas will surely be using a protection prayer when you first approach them, so keep that in mind for your attack style. Once you have done enough damage, it’s going to switch the overhead prayer to whatever you are attacking with.
Normally, after every 50 damage that the switch occurs, the first time a gorilla switches over, it tends to be a little before that. This also means that you will have to switch your gear every 50 damage.
Gorillas won’t switch their normal attack unless they are not doing damage. That means that when they hit 3 zeros with any attack style, they will most likely switch attacks.
Demonic Gorilla Location
To get to the place where the demonic gorillas are at, use a royal seed pod (the one you got after completing Monkey Madness 2). It is located just north of the Tree Gnome Stronghold. It is visited during the final battle of monkey madness II.
Once you are in the caverns, you should turn on protect from mage or range and take the passageway to the combat area. You can fight multiple gorillas at once, or fight them individually. Odds on are that you are going to get attacked by a gorilla before you can even pick one to fight. Make sure to pray against any attack they use, or else they will do some considerable damage.
Your main focus should be on not taking a lot of damage. Once you are protecting against their attack, check whatever it is that the gorilla is praying to help you decide what to fight with. If the gorilla uses a prayer attack from range, use melee; if it is praying protect from melee, use range.
Once you have got the hang of how the gorilla’s attack and the gorilla’s prayers, it’s going to be very simple from there, remember that every time that they switch overhead, you must change your gear and preferably your offensive prayer.
Tips and Tricks
- If you step away and the gorilla follows you, it is going to change to melee.
- Anytime you have to guess, and you might take some damage, use vengeance.
- If you see a rock falling from the ceiling, walk away at once.
- Once you’ve run out of food or prayer potions, use the royal seed pod to go to the Grand Tree and the bank.
