Requirements for Brewing Ale
Brewing ale is one of the best passive money-making methods in OSRS. In addition, you can also gain small amounts of cooking exp as you do it. And for you to get started on it, you will need at least 14 cooking or whatever cooking level you need to cook a particular drink within the game.

Steps on How You Can Brew Ale
Now that we’ve discussed the basics, it’s not time to start brewing ale. Here are the steps you can follow to do so:
Step 1: First, add the two buckets of water into the fermenting vat.
Step 2: Once you’ve poured the water, add the two lots of barley malt. You can also add The Stuff to improve your chances of maturing your ale.
Step 3: After adding the items above, you can add the specific needed ingredient for the specific type of ale you’re making.
Step 4: After adding the specific ingredient, you can add the ale yeast into the fermenting vat(bought from the NPC Blandebir or Metarialus)
Step 5: Once you’re done mixing in all the needed ingredients, wait for around one to five days for your ale to finish brewing. Your ale will take longer to finish if you added The Stuff in it. Your ale has a 5% chance of maturing naturally or 36% if you add the stuff from the Trouble Brewing minigame.
Step 6: When your ale is finished brewing, use eight empty beer glasses or two calquat kegs to collect it. Turn the valve to collect the contents of the fermenting vat.
Brewing Cider for Money-Making Method
Other than brewing ale, you can also brew cider. After all, it is another good passive means of generating money. So, to brew cider, you need the following:
- Four buckets
- Four apples
You will need a total of four buckets for each apple mush you will create. You can buy apples and buckets at various shops for cheap prices. To create apple mush, you can go to one of the three apple presses within the game. These apple presses are located in the following areas:
- The second level of the Laughing Miner Pub
- Below The Green Ghost Pub
- At the apple orchard, located at the outermost area of the Tree Gnome Stronghold
Other Helpful Brewing Tips to Consider
- Since brewing can be such a time-consuming process, you can use in-game items such as The Stuff to speed up the maturing process of your ales. The Stuff can increase your chances of maturing your ale to 36%. This item can be obtained from the Trouble Brewing minigame.
- With that being said, it’s highly recommended to produce mature ale as they are much more expensive. Therefore, they will cost more when you sell them.
- Although it is not needed to complete quests for brewing, you should complete the Ghost Ahoy quest to gain access to the brewing location at the Green Ghost Pub.
- Leaving your ale on the fermenting vat doesn’t affect its chances of going bad. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about not collecting your ale on time.
