Black Dragons have diverse combat levels that range from 227 to 247, depending on their location in the world of OSRS. They have a max hit of 22 with melee, and a dragon fire-breath can hit up to 50+ damage.

Since they are very strong, the only way to kill them is either using a good melee setup or by safe-spotting them with range.

Requirements

There are some items recommended to bring with you during your task to speed up your task.

Rune Pouch. The helpfulness of this relies on its ability to hold up to 16,000 runes of three different types. This will help you save inventory space, and you can use it to store some of the run drops that you get from the dragons.

Dwarf Multicannon You can get this from the Gran Exchange if you have finished the Dwarf Cannon quest.

Looting Bag If you are killing black dragons in the wilderness, consider bringing looting back with you to save inventory space. It can store up to 28 items, and it can be obtained as a 1 in 30 drops from any wilderness monster or purchased from the Bounty Hunter store for 10,000 points.

Location: Taverly Dungeon

This is one of the most popular locations because you can use a Dwarf Cannon here, and it has several safe-spots as well.

The fastest way to get there is using a Taverley Teleport, which you can get by using a Teleport to House tab with a redirection scroll. You will need level 10 construction to make the Taverley Teleport. This will take you north of the dungeon entrance.

Your next best option is teleporting to Falador and using the Agility short-cut on the west side, which requires level 5 agility to use.

Once you have sorted out, you will see two rooms inside the dungeon to kill Black Dragons. The closest once can be found on the upper floor, but you must be in a Slayer Task to access it.

Use the steps located just north of the entrance and above the level 80 Agility short-cut to get there. Once you have climbed up, run west past the Baby Black Dragons and into the actual Black Dragons room.

If you are not on a Slayer task, you will have to head to the room on the dungeon’s northwest end. The fastest way to get there is through the level 80 Agility short-cut and following the path until you reach the Black Dragons room. If this is not viable for you, you will need a Dusty Key to get through the lesser demon’s gate.

* To get a dusty key, run through the dungeon until you hit the Black Knights Base. Find the NPC named The Jailor, kill them to get the jail key, open the southern door, speak to Verlak the Explorer, and give you the dusty key.

Location: Evil Chicken’s Lair

To get here, you have two main options. This is still a good location since you will be able to use your cannon plus one safe-spot, but you will be required to have started the Recipe for Disaster quest. You will also need to bring a raw chicken.

The fastest way to get to the Evil Chicken’s Lair is by using a Lumbridge Graveyard teleport. This will bring you right outside the lair.

The next best method is choosing the Zanaris option on any Fairy Ring and then head northeast.

Before engaging with dragons, make sure to drink a dose of your extended anti-fire potion and activate your quick prayers. Go ahead and place the raw chicken on the shrine north of the fairy ring.

Once you are inside the room, find a good spot to set your cannon. Drink your stab, boosting potion, and make sure that your cannon is firing. Turn on auto-retaliate and choose the stab option on your preferred weapon.

If you are using the range, you can wear your Dragon Shield and drink your extended anti-fire potion and activate your protect from melee prayer before going inside the room.

You will find a safe spot just east of the entrance of the room, on the passageway. Drop your cannon, make sure that it is firing, and stand on the safe spot. Wield your ranging weapon, drink your stab boosting potion and turn on you’re protected from melee and your quick prayers.

* To pick up the loot that the dragons drop, remember to wear your Anti-Dragon Shield and have your protect from melee prayer on. This will keep you from taking any damage.

Location: Myth’s Guild Dungeon

Besides being able to use your cannon here, there are also some safe-spots available. Nonetheless, you must complete Dragon Slayer 2 to access the dungeon.

You can use a Mythical Cape Teleport to get you there. The teleport will take you outside the dungeon’s entrance, and you can get it from the Mythical Cape Store for 10,000 coins.

The next fastest way is by using a Spirit Tree to Feldip Hills and then run west to the Myth’s Guild Dungeon.

Before going inside the dungeon, you should drink a dose of your extended anti-fire potion and activate your quick prayers. Once there, run south and then southeast. You will come across some red and blue dragons before entering the black dragon’s room.

A good spot to set up your cannon is next to the structures coming out the ground. The safe-spot is just behind them. Drink your stab, boosting potions, and turn-on your auto-retaliate. If you are wearing a ranging setup, wear your anti-dragon shield, drink a dose of your extended-anti fire potion, and turn on your protect from melee.

Location: Lava Maze Dungeon

This location is very dangerous because it is level 40 wilderness, so you might be risking a lot by coming down here. That being said, the fastest way to get here is by using a Revenant Cave Teleport Scroll and then using the Agility short-cut on the northern part of the Lava Maze. To use the short-cut you must have level 82 Agility.

Your next best option is using a Burning Amulet teleport, using the agility short-cut located on the northern side, and then running south into the dungeon.

If using any of the previous short-cuts is impossible for you, you can use a Burning Amulet teleport to the Lava Maze and make your way through it. The Black Dragons are located on the very north of the dungeon.

Before you enter the dungeon though, drink your anti-poison, your extended anti-fire and your stamina potion. As you run through the maze you will have to slash the webs by constantly clicking them. Once you walk through the gates, activate your quick prayers, climb down the ladder, and then head northeast to get to the Black Dragons room.

Once you are inside the room make sure to drink your stab boosting potions, turn on auto-retaliate, and activate stab on your weapon.

If you are using range, find the safe-spot right behind the stalagmites and wield your ranging weapon, drink your stab boosting prayers, activate your quick prayers, and start attacking them.
