Introduction

Today we will learn a couple of different afk lazy ways to get to 99 smithing. This smithing guide can be done in an extremely lazy afk method, provided you are ok with losing some small amount of money or breaking even. There can also be profitable, but it depends on the demand and profit. Several quests are easy to do to cut down on your leveling progress to smithing level 99.

The quests

There are 12 quests that you can do to get to level 99 in smithing. This is the following smithing XP quest and its XP. The total quest XP is 94,982

• The forsaken tower – 500 XP
• A recipe for disaster (pirate Pete) – 1000 XP
• Heroes’ quest – 2257 XP
• The giant dwarf – 2500 XP
• Between a rock… – 5000 XP
• Elemental Workshop I – 5000 XP
• Devious minds – 6500 XP
• Cabin fever – 7000 XP
• Elemental Workshop II – 7500 XP
• The knight’s sword – 12725 XP
• Song of the elves – 20,000 XP
• Dragonslayer II – 25000 XP

Smithing times and game ticks

Every action in Runescape involves a game tick, and it is involved every 0.6 seconds, which will give us 100 ticks per minute or 6000 ticks per hour. Our main focus is on the smithing bar, which will be done in the anvil, and you should know how many smithing bars or actions can be made per hour. This will depend on the item smith because some of the items will require two, three, or even five bars, but we will assume smithing between 900 to 1000 bars per hour for this guide. We can smith 1200 bars per hour if we don’t need to bank, so I will add up the human factor and banking time to get 900 to 1000 bars.

Level 1 to 29

The first quest will be the knight’s sword quest which will grant you 12725 smithing experience, and 1 quest point, which will directly put you at level 29 smithing which will save you a decent amount of time over smithing bronze and iron items. You will need level 10 mining to complete this quest. 

You can also do Doric’s quest, which is about 5 minutes only. When completed, you can get 1300 mining experience, which will put you at level 10 mining. Not only that you will also get 1 quest point, 180 coins, and the use of Doric’s anvil. 

Another quest that you should complete is the Tourist trap. For this, you need to have level 10 fletching and 20 smithing, which you already have after completing the quest for the knight’s sword. For this quest, you will be awarded 2 quest points, 4650 experience in each of the two skills, the ability to make the throwing darts, access to a desert mining camp, and you will also get mithril and adamantine rocks.

Best Anvil Smithing Locations in OSRS

Southeastern Prifddinas

If you have completed the song of the elves quest, then you can use the anvil at the southeastern Prifddinas, which is only 8 squares to the bank.

Varrock Western Bank

If you have not completed the song of the elves quest, you should be using the anvil located in the western Varrock, which is only 10 squares to the bank. So the conclusion is the anvil in Priffidinas is only one tick closer to the bank than the latter, but it will not matter because you will still make about 900 to 1000 bars per hour.

Level 29 to 34 (iron knives)

The only item you need to smith level 99 is a hammer and bars, you will start by making iron throwing knives. They provide 25 experience per iron bar which adds up to 7499 between these levels. You will also get 22.5k to 25k experience per hour. You will need to smith 300 iron bars for 1500 iron knives, and it will take about 15 to 20 minutes to finish this. It will cost you 29k GP, earning 21K GP profit.

Level 34 to 54 (steel dart tips)

From level 34 to 54 you will be smithing steel dart tips. You will get 37.5 experiences per steel bar which will add up to 130,648 experiences. The total experiences per hour would be from 33k to 38k. You will need to smith 3484 dart tips per bar for 34,840. The total time to finish this would be between 3.5 to 4 hours. The total cost will be 1.4 million GP, and the total profit will be 375,000 GP.

Level 54 to 74 (mithril dart tips)

From level 54 to 74 you will be smithing mithril dart tips. You will get 50 experiences per steel bar which will add up to 345,406 experiences. The total experiences per hour would be from 45k to 50k. You will need to smith 18909 dart tips per bar for 189090. The total cost will be 11 to 11.5 million GP, and the total profit will be 2.1 to 2.2 million GP. The total time to finish this would be between 19 to 21 hours.

Level 74 to 89 (adamant dart tips)

From level 74 to 89 you will be smithing adamant dart tips. You will get 62.5 experiences per steel bar, which will give a total of 3746017 experiences. The total experiences per hour would be from 56k to 62.5k. You will need to smith 59937 dart tips per bar for 599370. The total cost will be 114.5 to 115.5 million GP, and the total profit will be 2.5 to 2.6 million GP. The total time to finish this would be between 60 to 67 hours.

Level 89 to 99 (Rune dart tips)

You will get 75 experiences per steel bar which will add up to 8192136 experiences. The total experiences per hour would be from 67.5k to 75k. From level 89 to 99 you will be smithing rune dart tips. You will need to smith 109229 dart tips per bar for 1092290. The total time to finish this would be between 109 to 121 hours. The total cost will be 1.3 to 1.4 billion GP, and the total profit will be 54 to 55 million GP.

Cannonball smithing

Cannonball is a resource that cannot be recovered, so it has a high demand among players. For this, you need to finish the dwarf cannon quest. Once finished, you will be given ammo mold to allow you to create cannonballs from steel bars. The furnace you can use is at Edgeville, and we can smith between 450 to 500 steel bars. It takes 10 game ticks per steel bar to make 4 cannonballs. 

If you are looking for a more profitable way to get 99 smithing, you can do cannonballs from 35-99. You will get 25.6 experience per steel bar for a total of 13,012,025. The experience per hour would be between 11.5k to 12.8k. You will need 508283 steel bars which accumulate to 2,033,132. The total time to finish is 1016 to 1131 hours. The total cost is 203 to 204 million GP. The total profit would be 193 to 194 million GP. This is extremely AFK, but the other method is much faster.
