In OSRS, thieving is one of the fastest skills, and you can increase its levels in many ways. Thieving is an easy skill to level up in OSRS, and its fast experience gain makes it less tedious as well, but it is quite click-intensive.
Thieving Leveling Guide
Level 1-5 Men/Women
If you are at level 1 and decide not to do any quests, you can only pickpocket men and women out of their hard-earned cash. These characters are located all over the world of OSRS, but the best location that has many groups of them is the Lumbridge Area. There is a house where you can trap them to pickpocket them to reckless abandon. It won’t take long to reach level 5 when you do this.
Level 5-20 Cake Stalls
Once you have reached level 5, you can now pickpocket cake stalls. These are located in Ardougne Square, and you can earn from 10k to 15 experience points per hour. From the NPCs available, the only ones you can fail to pickpocket are the baker and the guard. If they see you, pickpocket, you must move away to reset the NPC. You will pick up bread from the pickpocketing, but you can either place them in the bank, keep them as a food source, or drop them to make more space.
Level 20-25 Silk Stalls
Reach level 20, and you can move on to Silk Stalls, also located in Ardougne Square. You earn 15k experience points per hour.
Level 25-31 Fruit Stalls (15% Hosidius Favor Needed)
Once you have reached level 25, you can travel to Hosidius House and pickpocket at Fruit Stalls. However, you need a 15% Favor from Hosidius to steal here, but it worth it because you can earn from 30k to 25 of experience points per hour.
Level 31-60 (or 99) Pyramid Plunder
Located at Sophanem is the pyramid plunder minigame. You either need to start the Icharins little helper quest or just use a pharaoh’s sceptre in order to get there. If you can afford it it’s worth getting the sceptre.
Level 60-99 Ardougne Knights
These are located in the Ardougne square and are great for semi-AFKing. They can be lured in a corner so they only stand in one spot and you can basically just spam click on the Knights of Ardounge.
Disable Attack Option
For future reference, you can open up your settings, which are right to the logout button, and navigate to the Joystick Tab. Then, you can set your NPC Attack options to Hidden.
Now, you will have the Attack option on the NPC. However, there is still the Talk option, so you will still need to right-click and then click once more. There is still less pace in your mouse on each pickpocket, and it truly makes a difference in future pickpocketing since you only have to left-click to take the money.
When you pickpocket, you receive coin pouches instead of coins. You can only have 28 coin pouches in your inventory since they do not stack, but you only need to click on them once to open them.
Helpful Items for Thieving
Ardougne Cloak
To obtain this item, you must complete the Ardougne Diaries to receive it as a reward. The Ardougne Clock is going to give you a boosted chance of successfully pickpocketing.
The Medium one will give your character a 10% boost to pickpocketing as long as you are within the city limits of Ardougne. You do not need any level of the Ardougne Cloak equipped or in your inventory to obtain the boost. You only have to complete the “Ardougne Diaries” quest chain. If you complete the hard portion of the diaries, you will also receive the 10% boost, but it now works everywhere in OSRS.
Your Thieving level must be at least level 38 to access the Medium Ardougne Diaries, while the Hard Ardougne Diaries are only available until you reach level 72. Therefore, you will only be able to use them until much later in your Thieving Training. Either way, these cloaks are extremely useful to reach level 99 in a faster manner.
Dodgy Necklace
Another item that can speed up your training would be the Dodgy Necklace. This item does not improve your fail rate while pickpocketing at all, but when you do fail, you get stunned for a few seconds. This is when the item comes into play.
When you fail to pickpocket, the item bestows a 25% chance of not getting stunned, which will increase your overall experience rates. The necklaces are very cheap and extremely useful, especially when you are at lower levels. Each necklace has ten charges before it becomes obsolete.
Rogue’s Gear
The Rogue’s Gear has no purpose in regards to increasing your experience points, so it is not technically required to reach level 99 in OSRS. However, each piece of the set will give a 20% chance to double loot when you are pickpocketing, and if you obtain the full set (5 pieces), you will always double loot when you pickpocket.
You must be at least level 50 Thieving and Agility to have access to it. When you have reached these levels, you can go to the Rogue’s Den and complete missions to obtain the gear.
Ideally, you would want to acquire the gear as soon as you reach the 50 levels to unlock it. Although it may not help you with your overall experience rate, you will be able to obtain more loot.
Quests That Give Thieving Exp
Most of these quests have a low to mid-level requirements, but the most appealing ones are the Tower of Life, Biohazard, Hazeel Cult, and the Fight Area.
There are some quests that you can do to increase your thieving experience in OSRS. However, they are not as important when compared to other skills because you earn solid experience rates in early thieving levels from the start.
You can find other smaller quests to earn Thieving experience, but the previous ones give the most solid Thieving experience. Either way, you will have to do all the quests for your account’s progress, so it is better to do them now and obtain experience.
If you are at level 1 and decide to do the four quests previously mentioned, you will immediately jump to level 21 just from quests.
